Cylinder bore and deck machining detail from the Big 3 archive
Actual Big 3 machining detail. Representative shop work; your quote defines the industrial engine assembly.

Industrial equipment starts with industrial identification

Send the installed engine tag alongside the equipment tag. A brand name, horsepower figure or similar-looking assembly cannot confirm the right replacement. Include any previous repower or engine replacement so we can review the configuration you actually have.

Generator sets and driven equipment

For a generator, include the set rating, operating speed and standby or regular-use schedule. For pumps and other machines, describe the driven equipment and how it connects to the engine. Show the cooling and accessory arrangement where practical.

Plan which components transfer

Tell us which controls, fuel equipment, mounts, cooling components and accessories your installer plans to retain. The written quote identifies the supplied assembly and machining scope. Agree on any supporting repair, installation and commissioning responsibilities before sending the engine.

Rebuild scope and delivery

Call with the diagnosis and inspection findings before shipping a core or complete engine. We confirm the accepted engine, parts requirements, build scope, freight arrangements and schedule for your project. This page covers industrial inquiries; marine work requires a separate discussion and confirmation.

A useful quote starts here

Send the engine tag and equipment details.

  1. Engine model, serial number and product or specification numbers shown on the engine tag. Include clear identification photos and prior replacement records.

  2. Generator, pump or machine make/model, operating rating, hours and normal duty. Describe the drive connection, cooling arrangement and existing controls.

  3. Diagnosis and inspection findings, accessories to reuse, engine removal status, delivery ZIP and required return-to-service date.

Assembly & scope

Confirm the machining, internal components, external equipment and test or commissioning responsibilities in writing. Engine work and complete-machine repair are different scopes.

Core & freight

Confirm whether exchange is required and whether a deposit is included or separate. A core must match the purchased engine and be rebuildable to receive credit. Freight and unloading arrangements are confirmed for the order.

Schedule & warranty

Agree on the build or supply schedule and the written coverage for your exact order. Inspection, parts availability and confirmed scope affect timing. Review the oil, maintenance and warranty requirements before use.

Questions before you commit

Can I use a marine engine listing for an industrial machine?

Do not assume interchange from the Volvo Penta name alone. Send the identification and installation details from the engine and equipment being repaired. We review the industrial configuration before quoting.

Does the quote include generator controls or field installation?

Only work specifically included in the written quote is included. Tell us what your repair team handles and what support you need so the handoff is clear.

Can I order from the model name alone?

No. The engine tag and equipment tag identify different parts of the application. Include both, along with fuel and operating details.

Is every engine shown ready to ship?

No. A guide describes an inquiry path. Current stock, build acceptance, price and lead time are confirmed for your specific order before payment.

Can you handle a natural-gas engine?

Yes. Big 3 builds natural-gas engines for industrial applications. Send the engine and equipment identification, fuel-system details and operating requirements for a build-specific quote.

Does this include the whole machine or site work?

The engine build is the starting scope. Removal, installation, generator electrical work, pump work, field service and commissioning are included only if specifically agreed in your quote.
