You have a top-end plan.
A short block is the lower engine assembly: the block and rotating assembly. It can suit a project where you already have compatible heads or want to select the top-end combination separately. Camshaft, timing parts, oiling components and other inclusions must be checked against the exact listing.
You want more of the engine assembled.
A long block generally adds assembled cylinder heads and more of the valvetrain. If your existing heads are damaged, or you want a more complete starting point, compare the long-block options before choosing a short block.
